I first encountered the Shortknee mas when I was 8 years old in Grenada. I was in my grandmother’s veranda around the carnival season and a group of them came into our gap chanting and dancing the traditional moves of the Shortknee. I was mesmerized by the mix of fabrics in their costume, the mirrors on their vestment, bells on their feet and the mask to conceal their face. Not to mention the pelting of powder in the air, it was all so beautiful to me.

Then a few days later, on Carnival Monday, we drove to a town called Chantimelle and saw a whole band of what seemed to be maybe 30-40 of them and it was such a beautiful storm of colors leaving this cloud of baby powder trailing behind them. I fell in love with this traditional mas and how it has always been in my heart. I’ve always worked with fabrics and finding ways to apply to jewelry and accessories and with this I pay homage to the “Shortknee” with my latest jewelry now available on www.AyeShanti.com

Good Morning and welcome to Day Twelve, THE LAST DAY of the “12 Days of Reflections Challenge” for 2014.
“What did this challenge reveal about you for 2014? Were there any changes from 2013? What is the greatest wish for 2015? Anything you wish to happen, focus on or make happen?”

12DaysofReflectionsDay12

It has truly been an awesome experience and I want to thank those of you who joined me on this journey. I tend to hold on to this book/journal or if you’ve used social media for this challenge, you should print the pages and keep nearby so you can look back at it for 2015. Since I have a couple of pages in my journal remaining, I will put up a few extra prompts to answer before the New Year is here, but again, I hope you had fun. You can answer these questions anytime if you haven’t finished it and wish you all the best in 2015. See you in 2016 for the next year in reflections!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me! Lots of Love
Blessings,
Shanti

Good Morning and welcome to Day Eleven of the “12 Days of Reflections Challenge” for 2014. If you’re new to this challenge, check out my previous blog post (ClickHere). This a project I do every year around the holidays where I dedicate some time to #reflect in a journal or notebook with questions and lists about the past year and my hopes for the future. Today’s reflection is:

12DaysofReflectionsDay11

“What is the song title or soundtrack to represent 2014? Were there any song(s) you listened to that reminds you of this year, of a special someone or special occasion?

It doesn’t take much to start; all you need is a pen, some paper/journal or even use your notes section from your phone/tablet and a few minutes out of your day. Everyday I’ll post the questions on my social media pages and website so make sure to check in (if you would like it emailed to you, please subscribe at the bottom of the homepage on www.AyeShanti.com.) Share the questions with your family and friends or even add your own if you like. You can get creative with your pages (if you want to) and just enjoy the journey. These questions can definitely be a private process, but some are light hearted and if you feel to share your page, hashtag it #reflect14 or #reflection2014 for people to find, tag myself or even email it to me at shanti@ayeshanti.com, since I’ll be sharing a few. You can follow my prompts here on www.AyeShanti.com, my Facebook page, Twitter or on Instagram. Have fun and share your entries!
